About Us
Mission
Kadima Hebrew Academy is dedicated to educating children of diverse backgrounds through a comprehensive Judaic and General Studies curriculum. As a Solomon Schechter school, Kadima is guided by the philosophy and practices of Conservative Judaism that encourages critical thinking and views history as a dynamic process. The curriculum links students to a cumulative tradition that values reading perceptively, reflecting thoughtfully, a fluent command of English and Hebrew language, text literacy and familiarity with the history and traditions of Jews and America. Students are provided with tools and a passion for lifelong learning. By connecting children, families and community, Kadima nurtures compassionate, moral and socially responsible individuals.
Philosophy
The means by which the mission of the school is achieved are a reflection of the school’s educational philosophy. The following core principles represent this philosophy:
- The most fundamental task of schooling is to provide students with the tools (skills, critical thinking capacities, and processes) that facilitate lifelong learning.
- The study and experience of Jewish life, lore, and texts is comparable in importance to investigating other realms of knowledge and skill that children encounter in school.
- Each child has the ability to excel in his or her studies. The school’s task is to offer enough varied activities to enable every child to excel in as many ways as possible.
- The primary means by which teachers come to know children is by closely and sensitively observing them.
- The school and home are equal partners in a child’s development.
- Calm discourse, sympathetic listening and a profound respect for others are keys to mutual understanding.
- The school is a community where diverse parents, grandparents, students, teachers, local clergy, and other community members come together to enact the values taught that create a caring vibrant environment.
A bilingual education fosters brain development positively affecting many academic areas. Hebrew language facility is the basis for Jewish literacy and empowerment.- Kadima embraces the traditional love of Eretz Yisrael as the land of our history and the birthplace of our religion and culture.
- Kadima is a Solomon Schechter day school that teaches the observance of Shabbat, maintains Jewish dietary laws, holds daily services, and promotes involvement in “tzedakah” and acts of “gemilut chasadim” (loving kindness).
